YESTERDAY, JUNE 4TH THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH, EDUCATION, LABOR AND PENSIONS HELD A HEARING ENTITLED, "REAUTHORIZING THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACT: ENSURING COLLEGE AFFORDIBILITY." THE PANEL WAS COMPRIZED OF WITNESSES THAT DISCUSSED ISSUES RANGING FROM STATE DISNVESTMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION TO GROWING LEVELS OF STUDENT DEBT. AN ARCHIVED WEBCAST OF THE HEARING, AS WELL AS WITNESS TESTIMONY MAY BE VIEWED HERE: http://1.usa.gov/1KAX9GL. THE NEXT SENATE HEA REAUTHORIZATION HEARING IS EXPECTED TO BE HELD ON JUNE 17TH.

I AM PRESIDENT OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEE ASSOCIATION, A CAUCUS OF ACCT.
I AM A TRUSTEE AT MERCER COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEES (ACCT).
THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEE ASSOCIATION, (AACCTA) IS WORKING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO MINORITY STUDENTS. SEEKING TO PROVIDE MENTORING, TUTORING AND RESOURCES TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE ALL THAT IS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THEIR ASSOCIATE DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO COMPETE IN THE GLOBAL MARKET WORKPLACE.
